Red Tide

Red Tide

The only way you can keep me from going to the Sarasota beaches is during a hurricane event or when red tide is present. Currently many of the area beaches are experiencing red tide. For those who may not know what red tide is, according to Mote Marine, “red tide is a harmful algal bloom, that occurs when there is is a higher-than-normal concentration of a microscopic alga (plant-like organism).

Just a “Normal” Weekend

Just a “Normal” Weekend

One of the things I love most about living here is the quality of life it provides; no doubt it is the endless summer and I can not get enough! Although I do try to live like I’m on vacation every weekend, once in a while, real life sets in and a “normal” weekend must be had. This momma spent her weekend at a lacrosse tournament. This is both my kids primary sport. Even though I wasn’t at an outdoor music venue, or dining waterside, or relaxing on the beach, there was no place I’d rather be than watching my kids do their thing. Wherever I go, the sun is shining and the palm trees are swaying!

Siesta Key Staycation

Siesta Key Staycation

Last Fall, my husband and I began thinking about what we were going to do for my upcoming birthday. This was to be a milestone birthday and we wanted to do something big. Initially we thought about a destination party but with Covid, travel restrictions, and the uncertainty of the future; to plan something like that seemed more of a headache than pleasurable. One weekend last October, we were strolling Siesta Beach as we so often do and I turned and looked at my husband and said, “Let’s have my birthday celebration here”!

Selby Gardens Historic Spanish Point

Selby Gardens Historic Spanish Point

Selby Gardens Historic Spanish Point with its 30 acres and waterfront views is beautiful and offers long windy paths through large trees with Spanish moss hanging from them. There are many shaded nature paths; some are paved, some are mulch, some are seashells, and some are sand that lead you through native coastal habitats and serene views. Along some of these paths you will spy unique statues nestled within the foliage. Well thought out benches are located throughout to take respite and appreciate each area’s view.
