Siesta Key Beach

Siesta Key Beach

With so much material to choose from for my first blog post, I chose to write about the one and only Siesta Key Beach (SKB). Fortunately, SKB is right in my backyard and I try to get there at least once a week either for a long beach day or an evening sunset stroll.

They say that going to the beach is good for the soul, but some believe that really is the case when it comes to SKB. The sand at SKB is made up of 99% quartz, because of this the sand is white as snow, possesses healing properties, and remains cool to the touch.

The powdery white sand accompanied by the clear aquamarine gulf ocean affords the most picture perfect backdrop any beach-goer could ask for. No two days are alike; every visit offers a feast for the eyes. Who knows what one will see; beautiful wildlife, professional and not so professional sand sculptures, the most amazing sunsets, and fun events.

Some events noteworthy of mentioning and which will be explored individually are the annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sand Sculpting contest, the weekly Sunday night Drum Circle, volley ball competitions, and weekly family fun run.

Siesta Key Beach is located on Beach Road on Siesta Key. It offers free of charge a large public parking lot which fills up quick during snowbird season and spring break so get there early! Some of the beach amenities include restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic tables, volleyball courts, playground equipment, concession stands for food and drink, beach chair and umbrella rentals, and a free trolley service to take you around the island.

With SKB being consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in America by Dr. Beach and TripAdvisor Travelers’ ChoiceTM awards as well as being ranked the #11th beach in the world (2020) by TripAdvisor Travelers’ ChoiceTM awards, if you haven’t experienced it yet this is a must to add to your bucket list!
